Dear Colleagues

UPDATE FROM THE REGISTRY

I bring you greetings from the management and staff of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria all over the country to you all. We are indeed grateful for the kind feedback we have received from Pharmacists across the country and we remain committed to the delivering on our mandate to provide a sanitized practice environment for Pharmacists in Nigeria.

I encourage all colleagues to promptly renew their practicing and premises licenses for the year. The Registration and Licencing department of the council is committed to ensuring a seamless registration process. While we have partially relaxed the MCPD requirement so that temporary licences can be released, colleagues with outstanding modules in the old cycle (10, 11 & 12) are encouraged to promptly conclude their outstanding modules. Please reach out to the pharmacy practice department via enquiries@pcnmcpd.com if you have any queries.

In the month of February, 55 new Pharmacists were inducted into our noble profession. Join me in congratulating the new pharmacy graduates from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Sagamu, Ogun State.

In a bid to raise the level of quality service delivery by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and in line with its inspiration to deliver internationally acceptable standards service delivery, a capacity assessment program was undertaken between February 11 - 13, 2019 by HOWES consulting. The Registrar and the top management participated in the activity. Following the rigorous assessment program done with internationally certified assessment tools; institutional, organizational and capacity gaps were carefully evaluated and gaps identified. An action plan to improve service delivery and increase productivity has been developed and execution of the plan will commence shortly. The program was graciously sponsored by Society for Family Health (SFH).

The Pre-registration Examination for Pharmacists (PEP) comes up on the Saturday March 23, 2019 at 8 Centres across the federation. Interested graduates who are eligible to take the examination have up till March 10, 2019 to register for the examination.

In a bid to curb the rising incidences of professional malpractices and also improve the quality of output from our younger colleagues, I am pleased to announce to you that the 2019 cohort application for the Pharmacists Leadership Stimulant Programme is open. This programme is expected to boost the capacity and capability of colleagues currently undergoing the one year mandatory Internship programme. The objective of this programme is to boost the leadership, employability and entrepreneurial capacity of young Pharmacists during the Internship training programme. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and Advantage Health Africa, the programme Managers. To apply, please visit http://bit.ly/theplsp2019.  Entries would close on March 30, 2019. I would like to express our gratitude to Pharmacists who served as mentors in the previous cohort and appeal to other senior colleagues to avail our younger colleagues of their time and talent when called upon to participate in this very rewarding initiative.

As we enter in the last month of the first quarter of 2019, I encourage all Pharmacists to remain committed to delivering excellent pharmaceutical services wherever they find themselves.

I wish you all a productive month ahead.

Yours in Service

Elijah Mohammed FPSN, FNAPharm, FPCPharm, FNIM
